Kelly Blackwood has served Calvander Church since its inception in 2005. He began as the Worship Team Leader before being called as the Pastor in 2015. His focus is to encourage, equip, and teach through an interactive expository approach to the Bible. He has been influenced in his ministry by such pastors as Charles Spurgeon, Oswald Chambers, A. W. Tozer, J. Vernon McGee, and Alistair Begg.
The Calvander community and Chapel Hill have always been home to him. Kelly grew up on a family farm in Calvander and graduated from UNC-Chapel Hill in 1995. Currently, he is still active on the farm and can be seen on his tractor driving around the Calvander area while feeding cows, moving hay, and hauling firewood. His wife, Mayling, and daughter, Ruby, not only work along side him on the farm but also at Calvander Church. For a Southern boy, he speaks exceedingly fast. Be prepared to listen quickly.
